After Going Out 2 Transcript

1/
yes, like gunfire
ire ire ire ire ire ire ire ire
I I I I I I I I I I
I didn’t want another
I I I I I I I I I I
Iraq Iran Afghanistan Ireland

2/
I didn’t want to ruin
another party
but “Palestine”
burst from my lips

like, yes, gunfire.

[This sound piece overlaps and interacts with snippets of “After Going Out” (page 32 in Blissful Times; “2/” above), examining the emotions and possibilities of sound. I rhythmically repeat the “ire” sound from “gunfire”, then repeat and remix “Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Ireland” (“1/”). This leads into exploration of different sounds of the letter “i”: long I’s and short I’s alternate, repeat and undulate, changing rhythm and speed. They build and build, and eventually reach an emotional crescendo. At the end, I whisper the words “Ipperwash. Caledonia. Canada.” In the Zorras version, a second layer of my voice is added, echoing me. A third voice also joins, primarily making gulping sounds; there’s also cajón following and contrasting my rhythm.]
